What to Expect During a Virtual Ayurvedic Consultation
A first-time patient's guide to a video consultation with Dr. Bali: what to prepare, what can be assessed by video, formulations, shipping and follow-up.
A virtual Ayurvedic consultation is a one-to-one video call with the physician. You send your history, reports and photographs in advance, the doctor takes a detailed history and examines your tongue, skin and eyes on camera, then explains the assessment and plan. Formulations are shipped from India with a certificate of analysis. Pulse diagnosis is not possible by video.
Before you book
A virtual consultation is a one-to-one video call with Dr. Arvinder Singh Bali, BAMS, from the clinic in Chandigarh. It is the same assessment he gives in person, adjusted for what a camera can and cannot show. Patients consult from the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Gulf, Russia, Central Asia and Singapore, in English, Hindi or Punjabi.
It suits chronic and functional conditions: digestive complaints, joint pain, skin conditions, sleep, stress, women's health and metabolic conditions. It does not suit emergencies, and it cannot deliver procedures such as Panchakarma or Ksharasutra, which are done in Chandigarh. If your condition needs urgent care, see a local doctor first; the consultation can follow.
The consultation, step by step
The process is deliberately plain. There is nothing to install beyond a standard video call, and no decision to make on the call itself. Most of the value comes from what you send before it, and most of the reassurance comes from hearing the reasoning behind the plan rather than only the plan.
- Book a slot on the consultation page; fees are confirmed at booking and payment instructions are sent with the confirmation.
- Complete the intake form and send your reports, medicine list and photographs before the call.
- Join the video call at the agreed time; a family member is welcome if you would like one present.
- Dr. Bali takes a detailed history and examines your tongue, eyes and skin on camera.
- He explains the assessment: your constitution, the current imbalance, the likely cause, and the stage of the condition.
- A written plan follows: diet, routine and any formulations, with the reasoning for each.
- Formulations are dispensed in India and shipped to you; a follow-up is scheduled, usually at four to six weeks.
What to prepare
Preparation is what makes a video consultation as useful as an in-person one. The more of the following you send in advance, the more of the call can be spent on assessment rather than on collecting facts. Send what you have; nothing on the list is compulsory, and Dr. Bali will ask for anything that is missing.

| Item | Why it helps | How to send it |
|---|---|---|
| Recent test reports | Rules out structural disease and shows what has already been measured | Scans or clear photographs of each page, most recent first |
| Current medicines and supplements | Avoids interactions and shows what has been tried | A list with dose and how long you have taken each |
| Tongue photographs | Tongue coating and color are a direct sign of Agni and Ama | Two photographs in daylight, first thing in the morning, before brushing or eating |
| Skin or nail photographs | Rash, pigmentation and nail changes are read directly | Daylight, no filter, with a coin or ruler for scale where useful |

If you do not have recent reports, say so. Dr. Bali may ask for specific tests before or after the consultation, done locally, and will explain why each is needed. Tests are requested when they would change the plan, not as a routine, so the list is usually short.
What can and cannot be assessed by video
Classical examination has three parts: questioning, observation and touch. Video keeps the first two in full and loses the third. In practice the history is the largest part of any Ayurvedic assessment, so the loss is smaller than patients expect, but it is real and Dr. Bali does not pretend otherwise.
- Assessment: Detailed history and Nidana (cause)
- By videoYes
- NotesThe largest part of the assessment, unchanged by video
- Assessment: Prakriti (constitution)
- By videoYes
- NotesMostly history; confirmed by observation on camera
- Assessment: Tongue examination
- By videoYes
- NotesOn camera and from daylight photographs
- Assessment: Skin, nails and eyes

- Assessment: Nadi (pulse)
- By videoNo
- NotesRequires touch; not possible by video
- Assessment: Abdominal palpation
- By videoNo
- NotesRequires touch; replaced by history and reports where needed
- Assessment: Panchakarma, Basti, Ksharasutra
- By videoNo
- NotesProcedures are done in the clinic in Chandigarh
| Assessment | By video | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Detailed history and Nidana (cause) | Yes | The largest part of the assessment, unchanged by video |
| Prakriti (constitution) | Yes | Mostly history; confirmed by observation on camera |
| Tongue examination | Yes | On camera and from daylight photographs |
| Skin, nails and eyes | Yes | On camera and from photographs |
| Nadi (pulse) | No | Requires touch; not possible by video |
| Abdominal palpation | No | Requires touch; replaced by history and reports where needed |
| Panchakarma, Basti, Ksharasutra | No | Procedures are done in the clinic in Chandigarh |
Where the missing examination would change the plan, Dr. Bali says so. Sometimes that means asking for a specific local test, sometimes an in-person visit. A consultation that ends with an honest 'I need to see you in person' is still a useful consultation.
Formulations, shipping and customs
If a formulation is prescribed, it is dispensed in India and shipped to you by tracked courier, typically in 7 to 14 days, within a three-month supply. Each shipment carries customs paperwork and a third-party certificate of analysis for the batch, showing identity, heavy metal, pesticide and microbial results. You can check the certificate against the batch number on the pack.
Patients abroad are prescribed plant-based formulations. Mineral-based classical preparations, Bhasma, are not shipped internationally. Where a case would ordinarily call for one, Dr. Bali uses a plant-based alternative or advises treatment in Chandigarh. The cost of formulations is quoted before anything is dispensed.
Fees, payment and languages
Consultation fees depend on the consultation type and are confirmed when you book. Payment instructions are sent with the booking confirmation. Consultations are held in English, Hindi or Punjabi, whichever you are most comfortable in. If you are unsure which consultation type you need, say what you are consulting about when you book and the practice will advise.
Your history, reports and photographs are used for your care and kept in your case record, so that follow-ups build on the first consultation rather than starting again. Nothing is shared outside the practice without your consent, and you can ask for a copy of your plan and record at any time.
Follow-up
The first follow-up is usually at four to six weeks, by video. It reviews what changed, adjusts the formulation and diet, and sets the next interval. Chronic conditions typically need three to four reviews over six months; simpler complaints need fewer. Between reviews you can write to the practice with questions about the plan.
Follow-up is where most of the benefit is made. A plan set at the first consultation is a first draft based on the best available information. The review is where it becomes precise. Patients who skip the review tend to keep the first draft for too long, and either stop a formulation that was working or continue one that had done its job.
Frequently asked questions
Can an Ayurvedic doctor diagnose without checking my pulse?
Yes. The classical assessment rests on history first, then observation, then touch. The pulse confirms what the history and tongue suggest; it does not replace them. By video Dr. Bali has the history, the tongue, the skin and your reports. Where the pulse would change the plan, he says so and advises an in-person visit.
How do I get the medicines if I live abroad?
Prescribed plant-based formulations are dispensed in India and shipped by tracked courier, typically in 7 to 14 days, within a three-month supply, with customs paperwork and a certificate of analysis for the batch. Mineral-based preparations (Bhasma) are not shipped internationally.
Can I consult from the USA?
Yes. Patients consult from the USA and from Canada, the UK, Australia, the Gulf and elsewhere. Slots are offered across time zones, and the consultation is in English, Hindi or Punjabi. Formulations are shipped to you; procedures such as Panchakarma require a visit to Chandigarh.
What if I need a procedure like Panchakarma?
Procedures are done in the clinic in Chandigarh, not online. If Dr. Bali thinks a course of Panchakarma, Basti or Ksharasutra would help, he will say so at the consultation, explain what it involves and how long a visit would take, and set out what can be done by video in the meantime.
How much does an online consultation cost?
Fees depend on the consultation type and are confirmed when you book, before any payment is taken. Payment instructions are sent with the booking confirmation. Formulation costs are separate and are quoted before anything is dispensed.
