What Is Siddhantik Ayurveda?

Siddhantik Ayurveda is Ayurveda practised from its Siddhanta, the established principles of the classical texts: Tridosha, Agni, Dhatu, Srotas and Prakriti, with the cause removed before the symptom is treated. It is classical Ayurveda named for its method. The physician reasons from assessment to plan, rather than matching a therapy or a product to a diagnosis.
01
The word and the idea
Siddhanta (सिद्धान्त) means an established conclusion: a principle that has been argued through and settled. The Charaka Samhita uses the word for the doctrines a physician must hold before treating anyone. Siddhantik is simply the adjective. Siddhantik Ayurveda is Ayurveda that works from those settled principles, whatever the presenting complaint.
The contrast is with Ayurveda practised as a catalogue: a therapy for each symptom, a product for each complaint, a detox for everyone. That version is easy to sell and easy to misapply. Principle-based Ayurveda is slower at the front, because the assessment comes first, and more reliable after it, because the plan follows from the case.
Classical reference · Siddhanta
Charaka lists Siddhanta among the terms a physician must master for clinical reasoning and debate, and defines it as a conclusion established by the learned after examination through many lines of reasoning.
Charaka Samhita, Vimana Sthana, chapter 8 (Rogabhishagjitiya)

The principles it works from
| Principle | What it means in practice |
|---|---|
| Tridosha | Vata, Pitta and Kapha: the three functional principles whose balance is health and whose vitiation is disease. |
| Agni | Digestive and metabolic fire. Almost every chronic condition is read first as a disorder of Agni. |
| Dhatu and Mala | The seven tissues and the wastes. Disease is located in the tissue it has reached, not only in the symptom. |
| Srotas | The channels of the body. Blockage, excess flow or wrong-way flow explains how a disorder travels. |
| Prakriti and Vikriti | Constitution at birth and the present imbalance. The plan is set for the person, not the diagnosis. |
| Nidana Parivarjana | Removing the cause is the first treatment. Without it, medicine only manages symptoms. |
| Shodhana and Shamana | Purification (Panchakarma) when the Doshas must be cleared; pacification with diet and formulations when they can be settled in place. |

What it looks like in Dr. Bali's practice
- Assessment before prescription: Nadi and tongue in-clinic, history, Prakriti and Vikriti, and the reports you bring.
- Two patients with the same diagnosis routinely leave with different plans, because the Dosha pattern and Agni differ.
- Cause first: diet timing, routine and sleep are corrected before, or alongside, any formulation.
- Shodhana only when the case calls for it. Panchakarma is a treatment, not a package.
- Plain scope: when a case needs surgery, a specialist or emergency care, that is said at the first consultation.
- Formulations chosen for the case, dispensed with a certificate of analysis, and never at the cost of prescribed medication.

Frequently asked questions
What is Siddhantik Ayurveda?
Siddhantik Ayurveda is Ayurveda practised from its Siddhanta, the established principles set out in the Charaka Samhita, Sushruta Samhita and Ashtanga Hridaya: Tridosha, Agni, Dhatu, Srotas, Prakriti and the rule that the cause is removed before the symptom is treated. It is the same thing as classical Ayurveda, named for its method rather than its age.
How is it different from wellness or spa Ayurveda?
Wellness Ayurveda sells therapies and products: a massage, a detox package, a supplement for a symptom. Siddhantik Ayurveda starts with assessment and reasons from principle to plan. The same therapy may be used, but only when the case calls for it, and often it is not used at all.
Is Siddhantik Ayurveda religious or spiritual?
No. It is a medical system with its own physiology, diagnosis and pharmacology. Its texts are Sanskrit medical treatises, not scripture, and the practice does not require any belief.
Does it reject modern medicine?
No. Dr. Bali reads blood tests and imaging, coordinates with specialists, refers when a case needs surgery or emergency care, and never asks a patient to stop prescribed medication. The principle-based method is the reason he can say clearly when Ayurveda is not the right tool.
Where does the word come from?
Siddhanta means an established conclusion or doctrine, a principle settled by reasoning and evidence. Siddhantik is the adjective: principle-based.
