In short

Ayurveda treats chronic stress and burnout as depletion of Ojas, the reserve that gives the body resilience, from overwork, poor sleep, irregular food and worry. Dr. Bali assesses Prakriti, sleep, digestion and how far the reserve has fallen, then rebuilds it with Rasayana formulations such as Ashwagandha, a workable daily routine, diet and yoga therapy set to your capacity.

01

Who this page is for

  • Months of long hours and short sleep, with fatigue that a weekend or a holiday no longer fixes.
  • Waking tired, relying on caffeine to start and alcohol or screens to stop.
  • Stress that has begun to show in the body: acidity, headaches, hair fall, weight change or frequent colds.
  • Irritability, low motivation and poor concentration in someone who used to cope well.
  • Recovery after an illness, a loss or a demanding stretch of caring for someone.

02

How Dr. Bali approaches chronic stress and burnout

Charaka describes Ojas as the finest product of digestion, the substance that holds strength, immunity and steadiness of mind. He lists what depletes it: overexertion, hunger, worry, grief, fear, anger, lack of sleep and dry, scanty food. That list reads like a description of modern burnout. When Ojas falls, a person tires easily, worries more, sleeps worse and falls ill more often, and pushing harder depletes it further.

Dr. Bali reads how far the reserve has dropped and which Dosha the stress is running through. Vata burnout is anxious, wired and sleepless; Pitta burnout is angry, hot and acidic; Kapha burnout is heavy, withdrawn and slow. The plan rebuilds rather than stimulates: food that nourishes, sleep that restores, Rasayana formulations, and a routine that fits the job and the family rather than an ideal you cannot keep.

Classical reference · Ojakshaya

Chapter 17 of the Sutrasthana describes Ojas, the essence that sustains life, and the causes of its loss: exertion, fasting, anxiety, grief, fear, anger, sleeplessness and rough, meager food. The Rasayana chapter, the first of the Chikitsa Sthana, sets out the rejuvenating formulations and the Achara Rasayana, a code of conduct covering truthfulness, calm, adequate sleep and moderation, which is prescribed as medicine in its own right.

Charaka Samhita, Sutrasthana, chapter 17 (Kiyanta Shiraseeya); Chikitsa Sthana, chapter 1 (Rasayana Adhyaya)

What the assessment looks at

  • Sleep, appetite, digestion and energy through the day, since Ojas depletion shows in all four.
  • The load itself: work hours, travel, caring duties and how much rest is actually available.
  • Signs in the body: hair fall, weight change, acidity, headaches, frequency of infections.
  • Prakriti and Nadi, to tell a constitutional pattern from an acquired one.
  • Whether anxiety or depression is present and needs its own care alongside.

When to see a doctor locally first

Chest pain, breathlessness or palpitations under stress need a local doctor to check the heart first. Persistent low mood with loss of interest, thoughts of self-harm, or exhaustion with unexplained weight loss, fever or night sweats need local assessment before Ayurvedic treatment. Thyroid disease, anemia and vitamin D or B12 deficiency mimic burnout and should be tested for.

What treatment may include

  1. 01

    Rasayana formulations

Ashwagandha, Amalaki, Guduchi or Shatavari in combinations set for your Dosha and stage of depletion, the classical rejuvenating (Rasayana) herbs, dispensed with a certificate of analysis.

  2. 02

    Dinacharya you can keep

A daily routine built around your actual hours: a fixed waking time, meals at regular times, a short midday pause and a firm evening boundary, adjusted at each review.

  3. 03

    Nourishing diet

Warm, cooked, regular meals with adequate fat and protein, and fewer of the stimulants and skipped meals that keep the body running on borrowed reserve.

  4. 04

    Yoga therapy and pranayama

A short daily practice of breathing and restorative postures set to your capacity, drawing on Dr. Bali's Diploma in Yoga Therapy, prescribed and adjusted like any other treatment.

  5. 05

    Abhyanga and Shirodhara

Daily warm oil massage at home, and for deeper burnout a course of Shirodhara at the clinic in Chandigarh.

  6. 06

    Follow-up

Review at four weeks and then monthly, with formulations and routine adjusted as energy returns. Online patients are followed by video with formulations shipped to them.

The combination is set after assessment, not before. Dr. Bali does not recommend the same protocol for every patient with the same diagnosis.

04

Formulations, shipping and the law

Formulations Dr. Bali prescribes are dispensed in India and shipped to patients abroad by tracked courier, typically within 7 to 14 days. Each parcel carries an itemised invoice, an ingredient declaration and the batch certificate of analysis. Patients in India receive them by courier within 2 to 4 days, or collect them at the Chandigarh clinic.

  • Every batch is tested by an independent laboratory for identity, heavy metals, pesticides and microbial contamination. The certificate ships with the parcel and is emailed to you.
  • Mineral-based classical preparations (Bhasma) are not shipped internationally. Dr. Bali prescribes plant-based formulations for patients abroad.
  • Shipments stay within a three-month supply so they clear customs as personal-use supplements. Country-specific rules are on each country page.
  • In-clinic procedures such as Basti, Ksharasutra and full Panchakarma are given in Chandigarh; the assessment, diet and formulations can be managed by video.
  • Consultation fees are confirmed at booking. Formulation costs are quoted before anything is dispensed.

Dr. Bali is licensed to practise Ayurveda in India. For patients abroad, an online consultation is an Ayurvedic assessment with guidance on diet, routine and classical formulations; it does not replace your local doctor, and prescribed medication is never stopped without the prescriber's agreement.

Frequently asked questions

Can Ayurveda help with burnout?

Yes, and burnout is close to what Charaka describes as Ojakshaya, loss of the body's reserve. Treatment rebuilds that reserve with Rasayana formulations, nourishing food, protected sleep and a routine you can hold, rather than adding another stimulant. It works best when the load itself can be adjusted at least a little.

How long does Ayurvedic treatment for stress take?

Sleep and morning energy usually improve within three to four weeks. Rebuilding reserve after months of burnout typically takes three to six months of formulations, routine and daily practice, with the plan lightened as energy returns. The routine continues after the formulations stop.

Is Ashwagandha good for stress, and how long can I take it?

Ashwagandha is the best-known Rasayana herb for exhaustion and stress and is used for months at a time in classical practice, at a dose set for the person and with review. It is not suitable in some thyroid conditions, in pregnancy, or with certain medicines, so it is prescribed after assessment rather than taken on its own.

Can I consult for stress online from the USA, UK or Dubai?

Yes. Assessment, routine, diet, home oil massage, yoga therapy instruction and Rasayana formulations are all managed by video, with plant-based formulations shipped to you with customs paperwork and a certificate of analysis. Only Shirodhara requires a visit to Chandigarh.

What is Rasayana therapy?

Rasayana is the branch of Ayurveda concerned with rebuilding tissue quality, immunity and reserve. It includes rejuvenating formulations such as Ashwagandha, Amalaki and Guduchi, and the Achara Rasayana, a code of daily conduct that Charaka prescribes as medicine: truthfulness, calm, adequate sleep, moderation and regular food.

Do I have to change my job or lifestyle completely?

No. The plan is built around the hours you actually keep and adjusted at each review. Small fixed points, a waking time, regular meals, a firm end to the working day and a short daily practice, do more than an ideal routine you abandon in a fortnight. Where the load itself is the problem, Dr. Bali will say so.

Is burnout the same as adrenal fatigue?

Adrenal fatigue is not a recognized medical diagnosis, and Ayurveda does not use the term. What people mean by it, chronic exhaustion with poor sleep, low mood and frequent illness after prolonged stress, is what Ayurveda reads as Ojakshaya, and treats by rebuilding reserve. Thyroid, anemia and vitamin deficiencies should still be tested for.

What does treatment cost?

Consultation fees are confirmed when you book and depend on the consultation type. Formulation costs depend on the plan and are quoted before anything is dispensed, so there are no surprises after the consultation.
